Open enrollment checklist: don't pick the wrong plan again
How to compare HDHP vs. PPO based on your real medical use, not the brochure.
Run the math: add your annual premium + expected out-of-pocket costs (deductible, copays) for each plan. Subtract any HSA tax savings (HDHP) or FSA tax savings.
For low/medium medical use, the HDHP+HSA usually wins. For chronic conditions or planned surgeries, the PPO often wins. The 'right' plan changes year-to-year based on your situation.
Also re-check: dental, vision, life, disability, FSA dependent care, and commuter benefits. Many of these renew with bad defaults if you don't actively re-elect.
